Ashleigh Gillen takes bronze in the 11- and 12-year-old category at the Synchro Ontario Novice Figures Meet in Toronto on Dec. 6.

The Kawartha Trent Synchro Club's (KTSC) Ashleigh Gillen finished third in the 11- to 12-year-old category at the Synchro Ontario Novice Figures Meet in Toronto on Dec. 6.

Following behind Gillen were teammates Clair Diamandakos in 13th, Aiya Hyslop-Healy in 19th, and Stefanie Hockaday in 46th.

The meet hosted 200 recreational and pre-competitive swimmers from 12 clubs across Ontario competing in three events: figures, flexibility challenge and timed swimming. This was the first meet of the season and the first ever synchro event for many swimmers.

In the eight and under category, Layla Sandiland finished in 9th place, with Mary Blewett in 32nd and Emma Blewett in 35th.

Mia Smith took seventh place in the 9- to 10-year-olds division and Fiona Pazari followed in 12th. Lauren Graham and Mea Simmons finished 37th and 49th respectively.

Lastly, competing with the 13- to 15-year-lds, Jessica Nilsen finished ninth, with Daphne Diamandakos placing 13th, and Emily Sanderson placing 21st.

The KTSC's swimmers will compete again in Ottawa from Jan. 10 to 11.
