Kawartha Trent Synchro Club's provincial competitive athletes competed in the Ontario Open Age Groups Synchronized Swimming Championships May 23-27 in Etobicoke, with outstanding results. This competition is their provincial championship and is the biggest competition of the season, with over 300 athletes participating.

In the Combination routine competition the 10 swimmer KTSC team brought home the gold medal and OOAGSSC Combo Trophy! “This is the first season these girls have participated in the combo event and they have exceeded our expectations” said coach Holly Bosnell. “We put together a fun routine to Bruno Mars music, and the girls really got into it. It makes a huge difference when the judges see the swimmers are genuinely enjoying themselves when they swim”. The combo is made up of Jayden Thomas, Grace Blewett, Myah Sandiland, Ally Sandiland, Danica Deck, Sabrina Adam, Kaelyn Stoyles, Allison Adam, Morgan Crowley and Meghan Graham. It is also coached by Dani Smith

The golden streak continued with the 16-20 Duet/Trio Technical Routine Competition, where the trio of Ally Sandiland, Allison Adam and Sabrina Adam brought home the gold medal. “This is the first season these swimmers have had to compete a technical routine. It is challenging because we are given specific elements that must be in the routine in a certain order, rather than developing a routine that caters to their strengths. They worked hard all year to master these skills, and killed it at this competition. I have never seen them have such a strong swim and it was reflected in their marks” said coach Dani Smith. “I am so proud of how hard they have worked for this. They deserve it!”

The trio also had a strong performance in the Free Routine competition, bringing home the Bronze Medal. “This is a tough category and the girls have been fighting for the top spots all season. They had a great swim and I am so proud of their results. To have this trio medal in both routines is amazing. This is the first year they have placed top three at Provincials in any routine, so it really shows how hard they have worked” said Smith.

The success continued into the 13-15 Team routine competition, with KTSC placing 4th in routine, 5th in championship. This tough category included 26 teams from across the province. “These girls have worked all year to perfect this routine.” said coach Bosnell “this was a busy competition for them and, with team finals and combo finals on the same day, was a real challenge for these girls. They didn't give into the stress and exhaustion and had a great last swim. I am very proud of all they have accomplished”. The team includes Kaelyn Stoyles, Myah Sandiland, Jayden Thomas, Grace Blewett, Danica Deck, Morgan Crowley and Meghan Graham.

In the 11-12 Team category, the team of Reilly Bates, Lauren Chambers, Brynne Kyle, Mari Dalliday, Lilly Fenton, Jane Hickey, Kate Miske and Ella Dummitt had their best swim of the season, placing them 20th of 32 teams. “I am extremely proud of how hard this group of swimmers have worked and how far they have come. They were among the bottom teams at the first meet of the season, and to make such a huge improvement is amazing!” say coach Sarah Birkbeck. The team is also coached by Maddie Dimacakos.

KTSC's 10 & Under team had their best swim of the season, earning them the 15th place out of 19 teams. “These swimmers have worked hard this year and have had a lot of fun doing it” says coach Katy Eldridge. “We are very proud of all they have accomplished this year”. The team is also coached by Myranda Hawthorne. Team members are Adeline McCully, Hannah Lock, Olivia Davie, Addyson Hoyle, Shyland Van Rooyen, Payten Klir and Kyrsten White.

KTSC had a strong showing in the individual figure categories. In 13-15 age figures Jayden Thomas came 16, Myah Sandiland 19, Danica Deck 26, Grace Blewett 72, Meghan Graham 75, Morgan Crowley 88, Kaelyn Stoyles 102, Ella Dummitt 178, Kate Miske 180 and Mari Dalliday 185. In the 11-12 age figures Lilly Fenton was 116, Jane Hickey 157, Brynne Kyle 162, Laurne Chambers 175, Kyrsten White 195 and Reilly Bates 196. In the 10 & under figure event, Adeline McCully came 12, Hannah Loch 67, Olivia Davis 72, Addyson Hoyle 74, Shylad Van Rooyen 105 and Payten Klir 126.
